Bringing nature in: PlantCare brings biophilia to Mendip Green School.
At PlantCare, we know that plants do more than brighten a room - they help spaces thrive, bringing life and a deeper connection to nature.
We recently donated a selection of plants to Mendip Green School in Weston-Super-Mare to introduce the calming, inspiring power of biophilia to their learning spaces. But this partnership is more than a donation. It’s a shared commitment to wellbeing, education and a greener environment
We caught up with the team at Mendip Green to hear what this support has meant to their school.
What were your first thoughts when you learned that PlantCare wanted to donate plants to your school?
We were first made aware of PlantCare last summer after sharing our learning environments project on social media. PlantCare reached out offering some plants - we expected a few small houseplants, so were absolutely amazed when 6 large trees and statement plants arrived!
When PlantCare got in touch again to offer even more plants we were so pleased. Our staff have been really keen to bring more greenery into classrooms and communal spaces. It makes such a huge difference to the classrooms, creating a calm and homely feel that benefits everyone.
What did it mean to your school to receive this donation of plants?
We honestly can’t express how grateful we are. The size, quality, and the quantity of the donation is something we could never have achieved on our own. School budgets are tight. Even essentials are a struggle at times, and our PTA funding often goes toward that. We’ve always wanted to fill our school with plants and trees, but it just wasn’t financially possible. PlantCare made that dream a reality. It’s transformed our space in a way we’d only hoped for.
How have the plants made a difference?
The plants have made a huge difference to our school. We’ve spent time redesigning our learning environments based on research, and the plants from PlantCare are really the finishing touch. The children and staff are loving them and there has been so much curiosity about the types of plants as well as children being very impressed by the size. On delivery day, the foyer felt like a jungle! The impact was instant, and the plants are all beautifully potted, so we didn’t have to do a thing other than decide who gets one in their classroom.
What message would you like to share with PlantCare and the team for making this possible?
The team was great. We met Jaimie and Vivian on the day, they helped place the larger plants, gave us great care tips, and were so lovely with the children.
Communication throughout was brilliant. We imagine that there is a whole team working behind the scenes to make this possible, and we want to thank everyone involved. This is a brilliant initiative and one we’re thrilled to be part of.
Would you recommend PlantCare to other schools or organisations and why?
We would absolutely recommend PlantCare to other schools and organisations - this is an incredible opportunity, and we are so thankful that PlantCare allowed us to be part of it.
At PlantCare, we’re passionate about bringing the benefits of nature indoors especially to places where it matters most. Mendip Green School shares that vision, and we’re proud to support them on their journey.
